Edward J. Cowan (til daglig Ted Cowan) (1944–2022) var en britisk historiker,^[4] MA i Edinburgh, og direktør ved Universitetet i Glasgows Dumfries Campus^[5] og professor i skotsk historie. Hans viktigste forskningsinteresser er omfattende og omfatter vikingtidens Skottland, den skotske uavhengighetskrig, tidlig moderne skotsk politisk tenkning, covenantbevegelsen, skotske utvandringshistorie, og skotter i arktiske og Stillehavets nordvestlige område.

Han var medlem av Royal Society of Edinburgh.
