オールドマン累層
オールドマン累層(オールドマン層とも)は、カナダ・アルバータ州にある後期白亜紀カンパニアン期の地層。主に河川の氾濫や洪水によって堆積された砂岩で構成されている。名前はレスブリッジとセントマリー川の間に位置するオールドマン川に由来する。恐竜の化石を産出する地層として有名である。[1]
堆積学
オールドマン累層は、主に明るい黄色みがかった色の細かい砂岩で構成されている。露頭は表面が粗く、濃淡にむらがある。 構成にはわずかにシルトと泥砂も含まれている。[2]
保存環境
オールドマン累層の沈殿物は河川の氾濫その他の川に関するイベントにより堆積されたものである。40mの厚みがあり、アルバータ州南部の州立恐竜公園に位置する。南西に向かって厚みを増す。モンタナ州北西部が堆積物の主な起源であったと思われる。[2]
年代
オールドマン累層はカンパニアン期中期(約7750万~7650万年前)の化石を保存している。[3] 地磁気極性年代表(火山岩の放射年代と古地磁気極性の変化の組み合わせによる年代測定から作られた年代表)では完全に Chron 33n に該当する。[4]
