Az Amietophrynus a kétéltűek (Amphibia) osztályába, a békák (Anura) rendjébe és a varangyfélék (Bufonidae) családjába tartozó nem. Az ide tartozó fajokat korábban a Bufo nemzetségbe sorolták.
Előfordulásuk
A nem fajai Észak- és Nyugat-Afrikában honosak.
