Shailendra Mahato

Indian politician

Shailendra Mahato is an Indian politician. He was the member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He represented twice[1] as a Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.[2][3]

Early life

Mahato was born on 11th October 1953 to Rabi Charan Mahato and Ludhi Rani in Setahaka village near Chakradharpur in erstwhile Bihar, now in Jharkhand. He belongs to the Kudmi farmer community.[citation needed]

Political career

Mahato Contested Lok Sabha election for the first time in 1984 from Jamshedpur on a JMM ticket, lost to Gopeshwar Das. In 1986, he became secretary and in 1987 became the General secretary of the party. He was also the Member of Committee on Jharkhand Matters formed by the Rajiv Gandhi government in 1988, to bring a resolution to the Jharkhand Movement. In 1989, He became the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Jamshedpur constituency. Again in 1991, became Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur constituency for the 2nd term.

His wife Abha Mahato was also elected as Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur in 1998 and 1999.

Personal life

He is married to Abha Mahato, also a politician.[4]

He has two sons and lives in Sonari, Jamshedpur.
