Gimv (Euronext Brussels: GIMB ) is a Belgian European investment company with experience in private equity and venture capital. Gimv is listed on Euronext Brussels and currently has a portfolio of more than EUR 1.5 billion consisting of around 60 portfolio companies, with a combined turnover of EUR 4.0 billion and more than 20,000 employees.[1]
History
In 1980, the 'Gewestelijke Investeringsmaatschappij voor Vlaanderen' (GIMV) was established by the Flemish Government as the regional successor to the National Investment Company (NIM) on the initiative of Marc Galle. Initially its goal was to support only Flemish companies in their expansion and international growth, but this was later expanded to include companies based in neighboring countries.
Shareholdership
With just over a quarter of the shares (27.81%), Vlaamse Participatiemaatschappij NV (VPM) was the largest shareholder. On November 30, 2023, the Flemish Government and WorxInvest announced that they had reached an agreement on the full acquisition of VPM's stake in Gimv[2]. This transaction was completed on May 21, 2024 and Hilde Laga resigned as director nominated by VPM and chairman of Gimv and Filip Dierckx was co-opted as a new director and designated as the new chairman of Gimv[3]. His co-option was confirmed at the next general meeting of Gimv[4]. WorxInvest is the majority shareholder of SD Worx.
Activities
Gimv considers itself more than just a provider of capital, it also acts as an active shareholder. Gimv identifies entrepreneurial and innovative companies with high-growth potential. Gimv’s five investment platforms are: Consumer, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Smart Industries and Sustainable Cities.[5] Because of the available capital and the need for diversification, Gimv prefers to work with companies that have capital needs of between € 5 million and € 75 million. The companies must be based in the Benelux, France or German-speaking countries. Gimv employed 93 people at 31 March 2024[6].
