Dunmurry railway station is located in the townland of Dunmurry in west Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
History
The station opened on 12 August 1839 when the Ulster Railway opened its line between Belfast Great Victoria Street and Lisburn a distance of 7 miles 60 chains (12.5 km).[3] The line was single-track, and Dunmurry was the only intermediate station.[4]
Connections
Dunmurry station lies between the centres of Belfast and Lisburn, thus making it a busy commuter station during peak hours.[5] It is a fifteen-minute train journey away from Lisburn, or a twenty-minute journey from Belfast Central, where intending passengers can board the Enterprise service to Dublin Connolly.[6]
Service
The line between Lisburn and Belfast Lanyon Place is temporarily closed due to the Belfast Grand Central enabling works. There is currently no train service at this station, and a rail replacement bus is provided. Below is the service pattern before the closure[7]
Mondays to Saturdays there is a half hourly service towards Lisburn, Portadown or Newry in one direction, and to Botanic, Belfast Lanyon Place or Bangor in the other. Extra services operate at peak times, and the service reduces to hourly operation in the evenings.[6]
On Sundays there is an hourly service in each direction.[6]
